Charles MacKatoni

Charles MacKatoni

Charles MacKatoni, 33, was the recipient of our first SLDO Assist financial grant. While at work one day, Charles blacked out and woke up in a hospital with the news that he had kidney failure.

Because of his condition, Charles was virtually homeless with no one willing to hire him as he needs to be on dialysis 3 days a week for 6 hours each day. Now that Charles has secured employment, he often misses dialysis due to work.

While Charles has been on dialysis for 3 years, unfortunately there is no end in sight as doctors have not agreed to put him on the transplant list while he continues to miss dialysis because of work.

Despite the adversity Charles has had to endure, he remains incredibly positive, tackling one day at a time. With the money raised by SLDO, Charles was able to have a Christmas and purchase presents for his sister, niece and other family members.
